Marianne (she/they) is a visiting researcher in the lab from Montréal/ Tiohtià:ke, and a PhD candidate in geography (supervised by Dr. Kevin Gould). She holds a Master’s degree in geography and a Bachelor’s degree with honours in psychology from Université du Québec à Montréal. Her doctoral research centers fire as a character she follows along like a research companion. Marianne’s ethnography explores fire enactment in the Canadian context: the political, imaginative, moral and aesthetic foundations of fire management, and the inevitable frictions between areas of practice. At Concordia, Marianne is a member of the Montreal Waterways collective, and the coordinator (2025-2027) of the Concordia Ethnography Lab (directed by Prof. Kregg Hetherington). Among other things, she enjoys putting together series of events related to ethnographic fieldworking, and to the art and ethics of translating fieldwork into stories. Marianne is also the francophone student councillor of the Canadian Association of Geographers.
